Unfortunately, most people don’t know how to assess the qualities of a good personal trainer. Most people use price as a measure of comparison and are primarily motivated by getting a “good deal.” By choosing a trainer purely on price, you may be wasting your money. There are many qualified trainers you can get at affordable rates.
The Train Station offers Personal Trainer Houston meant for women. With a poor quality personal trainer, you will not get the results you are looking for and could even end up with one (or more) injury (s). Here are qualities you should look for when hiring a personal trainer.
Customer Focused
In any service business, I believe that passion is one of the essential elements. If you combine a client-centered approach with passion, the personal trainer will go above and beyond your fitness expectations consistently. Some coaches will try to impress you with the amount of knowledge they have; all they do is talk and talk.
However, client-focused coaches ask the right questions and have good listening skills. They are centered on understanding what matters to you, your goals, and your current lifestyle. As human beings, it is important to feel that others care about what is important to us. So make sure you feel that way around your personal trainer.
Attitude and Inner Motivation
What is the content of what your current coach talks to you? Does he complain about hot topics or his life issues during your date? How is his attitude and his motivation? Is he looking at his cell phone or texting between sets? A good indicator is someone who uses positive and motivating language; go for someone whose presence increases your energy level and your mood.
Personalization
Many personal trainers use the same recipe with each client. I recommend you find a personal trainer who can tailor your program to suit your lifestyle and goals. If your trainer tells you that the only way to get results is to train 6+ hours/week (and doesn’t talk to you about nutrition), in my opinion, they probably don’t care about your success or do not have the necessary knowledge.
For most people (with good nutrition), maintaining a healthy weight requires about 2-3/hr of intense physical activity per week. If losing fat is the goal, we recommend between 3-5h/week (maximum).
Hiring a personal trainer is a big investment. Take the time you need to ensure you get the best return on your investment.
